A singing bowl is made of mixed metals such as copper, tin, zinc, lead, iron, and nickel and sometimes includes precious metals like silver and gold in it’s metallic makeup. Generally, singing bowls can be made with many different types of materials. Many people use the singing bowl for different purposes such as meditation, yoga, healing, relaxation, sound massage, sound therapy, chakra balancing and as a musical instrument.
The bowls are played by hitting, striking or slowly rubbing/stirring the wooden striker/mallet on the top outer surface of the bowl, producing a continuous harmonic sound. It is often played by placing it flat on the palm or by placing it on a singing bowl cushion.
The singing bowls that we carry are all handcrafted in Nepal. Often times, the bowls come in many different sizes and we have narrowed the sizes down to small, medium, large and extra large. The bowls generally give off 2 tones when struck, they play a prominent note and then a higher harmonic. The pitch of the singing bowls can vary depending on the size but generally it is higher in the smaller sizes and goes deeper in the larger sizes of the bowl.
We also carry the Brass singing bowl and the Chakra bowls in our singing bowl collection. Generally, singing bowls have many traditional Buddhist designs inscribed on them such as Tibetan “Om Mane Padme Hung”, Tibetan Auspicious symbols, Buddha eye, Tibetan “Om”, etc.
Finding the perfect singing bowl for you can be a great journey. There are so many different kinds of singing bowl which will come in different shapes, sizes, colors, designs and sounds. We hope that we can help you find the right singing bowl for you
